Is there any way to remember irregular french conjugations?
ex. whatever ones i hit pain with allow acheter (to buy), voir (to see), sortir (to go out), mettre (to set), partir (to leave, part), prendre (to take), dormir (to sleep), preferer (to take), boire (to drink), and venir (to come). if anyone has any ideas, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Unfortunately most of the time you simply have to learn them off by heart. That’s what I do. Just go over them again and again and trust me they will stay there. From 6 years of learning French I have remembered tons and tons of odd French verb conjugations.
However there is a mnemonic I was taught for verbs that take être in the perfect tense. It is DR P MRS VANDERTRAMP which stands for:
Descendre, rester, monter, revenir, sortir, passer, venir, aller, naitre, devenir, entrer, retourner, tomber, rentrer, arriver, mourrir, partir.
Par exemple : Je suis parti – I left, Je suis né – I was born
Also for the some common irregular IR verbs such as Sortir, Dormir, Partir, Repartir and Sentir they conjugate in the present tense like:
Je sors
Tu sors
Il/Elle/On sort
Nous sortons (Notice how in the 1st three you lose the last letter of the stem but it returns for the last 3)
vous sortez
Ils/Elles sortent
